Women’s Track & Field Wins Seven Events At Unscored Alden Invitational

Two top-five all-time marks were set as well in the Minutewomen's 2018-19 indoor opener.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts women's track and field program opened the 2018-19 indoor season on Saturday at the unscored Alden Invitational, hosted by Brown University. The Minutewomen won seven events on the day and posted two new top-five all-time marks.
 
Senior Emilie Cowan won the 300 meter dash, posting a time of 39.82. Junior Lindsay Witt also placed in the top eight at 41.91 (seventh).
 
Senior Bridget Deveau was victorious in the 500 meters at 1:17.59, while sophomore Kira Kopec was fourth (1:20.06) and junior Ariel Christie followed in fifth (1:25.15).
 
Junior Jada Harris took first in the 60 meter hurdles final in 8.68 seconds. Sophomore Emma Jones was third in the event (9.23) and senior Charlotte Robison placed fifth (9.39).
 
UMass landed three in the top-five in the mile, led by sophomore Caroline Clark in first with a time of 5 minutes, 19.46 seconds, followed by classmate Colette O'Leary in third (5:23.76) and freshman Alexina Hurley in fifth (5:28.11).
 
The Minutewomen took spots one through five in the 3,000 meter run with junior Taylor Blow claiming first in 10 minutes, 42.22 seconds. Senior Brook Hansel (10:42.62), senior Sydney Clary (10:56.54), junior Nicolet Chapman (11:03.35) and senior Alexa Livingstone (11:03.45) crossed the finish behind Blow.
 
In the 60 meter dash, junior Danielle Reicherts posted the fourth-fastest time in UMass history, 7.89, in her UMass debut, taking sixth in the event. Witt and Harris followed in seventh (7.89) and eighth (7.93), respectively.
 
Senior Olivia Weir was the runner-up in the 1,000 meter run at 3 minutes, 12.93 seconds. Freshman Grace Pettengill claimed fourth (3:16.30) followed by sophomore Catherine Curtin in fifth (3:16.62).
 
In the 200 meter dash, sophomore India Johnson placed third in 26.22 seconds and sophomore Abby Collins was seventh (27.26).
 
UMass' 4x400 meter relay team of Kopec, O'Leary, Cowan and Deveau posted the top time of the day at 3 minutes, 57.01 seconds.
 
Highlighting the throws, sophomore Lauren LaDere set a new personal record in shot put, to take the runner-up spot and improve upon her No. 3 all-time UMass mark with a toss of 45 feet, 11.25 inches. She also placed seventh in weight throw at 44 feet, 5.25 inches.  Sophomore Danielle Notarfrancesco was third in shot put (44'2") and second in weight throw (51'2.25").
 
Reicherts was sixth in long jump at 17 feet, 6 inches, while Robison followed in seventh (17'3.25") and freshman Emily McDonald was eighth (17'2").
 
In triple jump, sophomore Ivana Nyemeck landed sixth at 37 feet, 5.25 inches and junior Ashley Arroyo was eighth (36'8.5").
 
UMass will return to action Jan. 11-12 with the Beantown Multi Meet and the Beantown Challenge at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
