Ford Recognized as Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Candidate

Senior quarterback totaled 2,665 passing yards, 26 touchdowns in 2016

BALTIMORE - The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation named University of Massachusetts quarterback Andrew Ford as a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award candidate on Wednesday. The Golden Arm Award is presented at the end of each football season and the winner is selected based on his accomplishments on and off the field. Candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class.

Ford returns for his second and final season in the Maroon and White in 2017 after a standout showing over 11 games played, including nine starts. Ford was 222-of-365 passing (60.8 percent) with 2,665 yards and 26 touchdowns thrown in 2016. He averaged 242.3 passing yards per appearance and posted a 137.99 quarterback passer rating.

The Golden Arm Award committee will announce 15 finalists for the 2017 Golden Arm Award in September. The 30th anniversary presentation of the Golden Arm Award will be held on Fri., Dec. 8 at the Embassy Suites Baltimore Inner Harbor & Grand.
