Weinberg Completes Incoming Field Hockey Signing Class

England natives Davies, McTear added to 11-member newcomer group

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts field hockey program and head coach Barb Weinberg rounded out the 11-member signing class with the addition of Megan Davies and Georgie McTear on Friday. Davies is a goalkeeper from Hull, England, while McTear is a midfielder from Portsmouth, England.
 
"We are extremely excited to announce the addition of Megan and Georgie to our 2017 incoming class," Weinberg said. "Their club and international playing experiences will certainly add to an already well-rounded class. They are passionate about the UMass field hockey and are ready to contribute in any way possible to the future success of the program."
 
Massachusetts field hockey previously announced nine members of the 2017 signing class, including Emma Bressler, Lucy Cooper, Maddie Ellnor, Emma Ewas, Jenna Garber, Camille Lecrone, Mia Lennon, Bailey McNamara and Jas Stirling. The 11 newcomers join the 16 returnees when preseason training begins in August. The Minutewomen open their 2017 season schedule against Holy Cross at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex on Fri., Aug. 25.

Name: Megan Davies

Notes: Was the first team starting goalkeeper during each of her seasons competing for Hymers College … Reached the U14 National finals and also advanced to the North of England finals at the U16 and U18 levels … Played ahead of her age group and competed as the U18 top goalkeeper while still qualifying for U15 competition level … Played club level for Beeston Hockey … Won U18 National Indoor and Outdoor championships in 2016 … Senior National Indoor Division II campion in 2017, helping her club elevate to Division I … Earned junior international caps at the U18 level and is currently a member of the Welsh National "Challengers" Development Squad … Also competed in netball, rounders, tennis and track and field … Daughter of Dewi and Julie Davies … Sister to Helen.

Notes: Helped Millfield School win the Independent Cup and Indoor National Championship as a junior … Claimed the Independent Cup as a senior and took silver at the National Schools Outdoor Championship … Named MVP of Millfield's indoor hockey team … Earned MVP of the outdoor hockey team as a senior, when the captained the First XI … Plays club level for the Clifton Robinson Hockey Club and for England's U18 program … Helped England U18 claim a test series victory over Wales … Ranked second in the javelin across the United Kingdom in 2016 … Also an accomplished track cyclist, reaching the Great Britain talent pathway's fourth phase … Daughter of Nigel and Karen McTear … Sister to Ollie.
