Harris and MacLean Highlight Day Two of A-10’s for Women’s Track

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field collected two gold medals and one silver on day two of the Atlantic 10 Championships as the Minutewomen finished tied for fifth in the team standings with Rhode Island with 93.5 points in a tightly-grouped top-five. George Mason won the A-10 title with 118 points followed by Duquesne (112 points), Dayton (105) points and VCU (97.5 points).
Freshman Jada Harris picked up her second gold medal of the weekend, finishing first in the 100 meter hurdles final with a time of 14.20 seconds and was named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer of the meet. Sophomore Gabrielle Bennett scored in 100 meter hurdles, as well, placing eighth at 14.70 seconds.
Redshirt junior Heather MacLean won her first 1,500m Atlantic 10 title, leading the field of 30 competitors across the finish line with a time of 4 minutes, 23.18 seconds.
Sophomore Emilie Cowan earned a silver medal in the 400 meter dash with her time of 54.10 seconds and also scored in the 200 meter dash, taking seventh in 24.93 seconds.
The Minutewomen scored two in 100 meter dash with redshirt junior Diamante Spencer capturing sixth in 12.25 seconds, while freshman Lindsay Witt followed in seventh at 12.34 seconds.
In day two's field events, redshirt senior Kelsey Crawford claimed fifth in shot put with a 47-foot, 2.25-inch toss and senior Margaret Riseborough took seventh with a throw of 43 feet, 8.75 inches. Junior Mariah Collins was sixth in discus at 137 feet, 3 inches.
UMass' 4x100 meter relay team of Witt, Harris, Cowan and Spencer combined for a fifth-place time of 47.58 seconds and the Minutewomen's 4x400 squad of Witt, Cowan, Spencer and sophomore Elizabeth Gulino was seventh with a time of 3 minutes, 52.05 seconds.
Select Minutewomen who have qualified for the New England Championships will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, May 12-13, at the meet in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
