Colleran, Horn Named Student-Athletes of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Athletics has selected Meg Colleran and Kris Horn as its Student-Athletes of the Week for May 8-14.

Colleran, a junior from North Attleboro, Massachusetts, paced UMass softball to Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Sunday and a 3-2 record during the tournament with a 1.98 ERA. She was nothing short of stellar, pitching 16.1 innings over five hours in Sunday's two title games and 35.1 of UMass' 36.1 total innings over five games played. She was named the Championship's Most Outstanding Player, striking out 18 total batters while walking just five. The Minutewomen forced a game two vs. Fordham behind Colleran's 99 pitches in the 3-2 win (eight innings).
Horn, a senior from Pembroke, Massachusetts, scored 7,417 points to claim the New England decathlon title, nearly 1,000 points ahead of his nearest competitor and breaking his own UMass record by 122 points … Won six of 10 events in decathlon including high jump after clearing 6 feet, 11 inches, improving upon his No. 2 all-time mark in the UMass record book … Ranks 28th nationally in decathlon and 29th in the East in high jump … His performance helped UMass finish sixth in the team standings out of 37.
