Horn Smashes Meet Record at New England Championships

Horn scored 7,417 points in decathlon to win gold.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's track and field picked up a pair of medals on day two of the New England Championships with senior Kris Horn smashing a meet record and collecting gold in decathlon and classmate Dana Pagliuca claiming bronze in triple jump. Those and three more scoring performances on day two helped the Minutemen to sixth place in a field of 37 teams.

Horn scored 7,417 seconds to claim the New England decathlon title, nearly 1,000 points ahead of his nearest competitor and breaking his own UMass record by 122 points. Horn led the field in discus, pole vault and javelin on day two of competition. He posted a winning throw of 111 feet, 8 inches in discus (711 points), took the top spot in javelin at 170 feet, 5 inches (617 points) and vaulted 14 feet, 3.25 inches to land first in pole vault (716 points).
 
Pagliuca placed third in triple jump with a distance of 46 feet, 10.75 inches to collect a bronze medal.

The 3,000 meter steeplechase saw Dawson Bathgate pick up an eighth place finish with a time of 9:32.24. Sophomore Jake DeGrace ran 14.74 seconds to earn seventh in 110 meter hurdles.

UMass' 4x100 meter relay team of Hayden Gray, Hunter Gray, Connor Williams and Andrew Hanwell ran a combined time of 42.17 seconds to nab fourth.
