Tennis Back in Action at St. John’s and Stony Brook

Minutewomen take on Red Storm on Friday and Seawolves on Saturday.
AMHERST, Mass. – Following a week off, the UMass tennis team is back in action this weekend with matches at St. John's on Friday, March 31 and at Stony Brook on Saturday, April 1. The Minutewomen and Red Storm will open play at Noon, while the match against the Seawolves is set for an 11 a.m. start.
UMass (7-6) had the past week off after going 2-1 over spring break with 4-3 wins over Samford and Atlantic 10 foe Davidson. The Minutewomen will again have time off after this road weekend with their next match not until April 22 at Rhode Island.
Ana Yrazusta was named the A-10 Co-Player of the Week after the spring break trip with a 3-0 singles record on the trip and a 2-1 mark in doubles play. For the year, she is 10-3 in dual matches and 8-2 at No. 3 singles. In doubles play, the Las Palmas, Spain native has paired with Janja Kovacevic with the duo posting a 10-3 mark in dual matches highlighted by a 9-3 mark at the No. 2 position.
UMass' overall singles winner this year continues to be Brittany Collens with a 17-7 overall record. Along with Yrazusta, the Minutewomen have Kovacevic (11) and Anna Woosley (10) in double-figures for singles victories.
Doubles play continues to pace UMass early in matches as the Minutewomen boast a 0.676 win percentage having gone 25-12 overall in dual matches. Just behind Kovacevic and Yrazusta are Ruth Crawford and Anna Woosley with a 12-7 overall record.
St. John's enters the weekend with an 11-3 overall mark including a 7-1 home record at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Stony Brook is riding a five-match losing skid with a 3-8 overall record on the year. Saturday's match will be the first home contest for the Seawolves since September.
