March 17, 2017 | Tennis
Minutewomen win second-straight match decided by a point.
CHARLESTON, S.C. - For the third time this week, the UMass tennis team found itself in an evenly played, back-and-forth match decided by a point as the Minutewomen defeated Davidson 4-3 on Friday morning at the College of Charleston Tennis Center. All three of UMass' matches in Charleston were decided by a point with a pair of wins over Samford and the Wildcats.
UMass improves to 7-6 on the year after the two spring break wins, while Davidson fell to 10-3 overall. The result also gives the Minutewomen a pair of wins over Atlantic 10 foes after UMass defeated George Washington earlier this year in Washington, D.C.
Friday's match opened with the Minutewomen once again picking up the doubles point. Ana Yrazusta and Janja Kovacevic won 7-5 at No. 2 play, while Brittany Collens and Laura Moreno took a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, UMass earned wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 matches by Yrazusta and Anna Woosley, respectively. Davidson took the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles wins.
Collens once again was credited with the match-deciding point with a straight set victory at No. 6 singles. She also had the victory point on Thursday against Samford.
UMass will be off until March 31-April 1 when the Minutewomen travel to New York to play St. John's and Stony Brook.
