Men’s Basketball Continues Five-Game Homestand Tomorrow Against Providence

UMass and Providence will faceoff for the 33rd time as the Minutemen continue their five-game homestand with game two.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's basketball team continues their five-game homestand tomorrow as they are set to host Providence College at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in the Mullins Center. The game marks the 33rd meeting between the two teams with the Friars coming out on top last season by six points on their home court.
The game will be aired on Eleven Sports for the first time this season and be covered on NESN tomorrow. Eleven Sports can be viewed on DIRECTV channel 623, Verizon Fios channel 597, AT&T U-verse channel 1665 and on Fubo.tv and PlayStation Vue. The Voice of the Minutemen Josh Maurer and Adam Frenier will be on the radio call on 105.5 FM WEEI and will be available online via www.UMassAthletics.com and the Tune-In App (search WEEI).
The Minutemen (4-5 Overall) head into Saturday's matchup off a 64-50 win over Holy Cross that saw UMass hold their opponent to a season-low in points allowed as the defense held the Crusaders without a field goal for a 10-minute and seven-minute stretch in the win on Wednesday. Four Minutemen finished the contest with double-digits in the scoring column as C.J. Anderson, Malik Hines, Luwane Pipkins and Unique McLean scored 10 or more. Anderson and Hines each added a team-high nine rebounds while Anderson dished out five assists for a UMass team that assisted on 17-of-18 made field goals.
After scoring all 13 of his points in the first-half in the win over Holy Cross, Pipkins ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10 in points per game with a 17.7 average while Hines' remained one of the most effective shooters in the league from the field with a 60-percent average. On the boards, Hines ranks fourth in the A-10 with 2.9 offensive rebounds per game while ranking inside the top-10 in total rebounds this season.
McLean connected on multiple 3-pointers for the first time in this career on Wednesday, including a make from deep that put the Minutemen ahead by 16 on their way to building a game-high 17-point lead with a 12-0 run late in the ballgame.
UMass had one of their best showings of the season at the free throw line, knocking down 20-of-22 from the charity stripe for a 91-percent chip, tying the same mark from the line that was set in an 85-76 win over Western Carolina back on Nov. 21 in the Mullins Center. Anderson led the way by making 7-of-8 at the line
Providence (7-2 Overall) having won six of their last seven, defeating Brown in overtime 77-72 on Wednesday night led by 21 points from Rodney Bullock. Bullock leads the Friars in scoring this season with a 15.1 points per game average to go along with 6.3 rebounds while Alpha Diallo (11.4) and Kyron Cartwright (10.0) added double-digit scoring averages for Providence.
UMass remains at home in the Mullins Center for the next three games following Saturday's contest against the Friars, taking a week off from games until battling Georgia on Sat., Dec. 16 at 3 p.m.
