GENEVA, Ohio - In the opening day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships, the UMass women's swimming and diving team was dealt a tough set-back after being given a disqualification in the 800 free relay. With just two women's events on day one, the Minutewomen picked up 24 points placing them 11th overall.

Richmond leads the championship with 74 points followed by Davidson with 70 points. Without the disqualification, UMass could have placed as high as third going into day two.

The Minutewomen did have a successful showing in the meet's opening event with a seventh-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Rebecca Quirie, Ansley Baker, Cassie Sosnovich, and Jocelyn Yuen swam a time of 1-minute, 43.47 seconds which was just 0.26 second off the school record for the event.

Fordham sits behind Richmond and Davidson with 58 points, followed by Rhode Island and George Mason (54), George Washington (50), Saint Louis (48), St. Bonaventure (36), Duquesne (34), La Salle (32), and UMass.

Day two of the Atlantic 10 Championships will begin Thursday morning with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. The evening finals session will start at 6:30 p.m. Free streaming video along with live stats are both available at www.Atlantic10.org.
