Men's Track and Field Seventh at Joe Donahue Games

ROXBURY, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's track and field finished seventh in a field of 15 teams on Friday at the Joe Donahue Indoor Games hosted by Northeastern at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. Minutemen compiled 45 points in the meet, aided by freshman Cole Acoveno's third-place finish in high jump which set a UMass top-five all-time mark.
Acoveno leapt 6 feet, 8 inches to set the No. 3 mark in the program's record book and qualify for the New England Championships.
The distance medley squad of Kevin Rooke, Cory Thomas, Timothy Buckley and Adam Selsman nabbed second place with a 10-minute, 16.49-second finish.
Also posting a runner-up performance, Russell Wells ran a time of 2 minutes, 31.75 seconds in the 1,000m.
In the 60 meter dash, Jonathan Derolus finished sixth at 7.01 seconds, a NEw England-qualifying time.
Michael McNaughton was seventh in the 800 meter run at 1 minute, 55.17-seconds, hitting the New England Championships standard. Benjamin Groleau was eighth at 1:55.29, also a New England qualifier.
In the seeded mile, Paolo Tavares ran 4 minutes, 19.01-seconds to seventh place. Rooke took first in the unseeded mile at 4 minutes, 20.0-seconds. Adam Selsman came in seventh at 4:28.29.
Blake Croteau and Samuel Conway competed in the unseeded 3,000 meter run. Croteau earned seventh at 8:54.05 while Conway finished just behind in eighth at 8:54.20.
Andrew Hanwell earned eighth in the 400 meter dash with a 51.04 second performance.
The UMass `A' team took fifth in the 4x400 meter relay. Hanwell, Austin Rohlfing, Kris Horn and Jonathan Collins ran a combined time of 3 minutes, 24.61-seconds.
Deion Arneaud qualified for the New England Championships and earned sixth place in triple jump at 45 feet, 8 inches.
Next up for the Minutemen comes the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30, 2016 in Boston Mass., on the campus of Boston University.
