Draft Day: Dennis Torres Three Years Later
June 09, 2015 | Baseball
When Dennis Torres walked on to the UMass baseball team as a sophomore in 2011, he did so having never played high school baseball. Three years after he was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 28th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball first-year player draft, the right-hander continues to climb the minor league ranks.
After posting a 1.88 ERA over 12 appearances with the High-A Frederick Keys, Torres was promoted to Double-A Bowie late last month. He retired all five batters in his debut with the BaySox and, this past weekend, Torres notched his first Double-A win while pitching in front of his family in Portland.
The UMass Sports Network caught up with Torres last week in Manchester, New Hampshire, when Bowie took on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats right up the road from Torres' hometown of Lawrence, Mass.
