WORCESTER, Mass. - A three-run seventh for Holy Cross broke up a 4-4 deadlock and helped the Crusaders past UMass baseball, 7-4, on Tuesday evening at Fitton Field. The loss leaves the Minutemen at 11-21 on the year, while Holy Cross improves to 22-24.

UMass opened the scoring in the top of the second. Sophomore Dylan Morris reached on an error with one away and moved to third on a single through the right side by junior Brandon Walsh. Morris came home for the first run of the contest as freshman Brett Evangelista reached on a fielder's choice ground ball. Evangelista, after advancing to second on a single up the middle by junior Vinny Scifo and moving to third on a wild pitch, scored on a passed ball. Redshirt senior Kyle Adie then drove in Scifo with a two-out single up the middle to make it a 3-0 advantage.

Holy Cross responded, though, in the bottom half of the inning. Following three straight walks to Anthony Critelli, Bobby Pease and Bill Schlich, Dan Vucovich drove a two-run single through the left side of the infield. With two away, Nick Lovullo plated Schlich with an RBI single that knotted the score at 3-3.

The teams traded runs again in the fifth. UMass took a 4-3 lead after redshirt senior Rob McLam reached on a fielder's choice and came home on a two-out double by sophomore Mike Geannelis, but the Crusaders countered with a homer to left by Critelli.

In the bottom of the seventh, Holy Cross pushed across three to pull in front, 7-4. Bobby Indeglia led off with a single to right, Lovullo was hit by a pitch and Indeglia came around to score on an error on a bunt single by Evan Ocello. St. Clair then plated Lovullo and Ocello with a two RBI single to right center.

Junior Kevin Lacy took the loss (0-2) on the mound for UMass as he allowed four runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings of relief with no walks and three strikeouts. For Holy Cross, George Capen earned the victory (2-0) as he worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, surrendered one hit, walked one and struck out two.

For the Minutemen, Adie (2-for-3) and Geannelis (2-for-4) combined for four of the squad's nine hits in the contest and registered an RBI apiece. Critelli (2-for-3) and Indeglia (2-for-4) paced the Crusaders' offense on the day.

UMass will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, April 29, playing host to Quinnipiac at 3 p.m. on Earl Lorden Field.
