Box Score

DAYTON - The Massachusetts softball team dropped a pair of road games to league leader Dayton at the UD Softball Stadium Sunday.

The Minutewomen fell 1-0 on a walk-off home run in the first game before a 6-0 setback in the second contest.

UMass (14-23, 8-11 Atlantic 10) remains in sixth place in the A-10 standings and sits two games ahead of Saint Joseph's in the win column. La Salle is in fifth at 9-6, with a home doubleheader against SJU and a 3-game series against Dayton (34-12, 17-2). The Flyers completed their home schedule with a 14-0 record.

The Minutewomen will host Saint Louis next weekend in its final regular-season A-10 series.

UMass will entertain Boston College in a Tuesday doubleheader at Sortino Field at 2 p.m. and travel to Connecticut for a single game Thursday at 4 p.m. in non-conference play.

Game 1 Recap The Flyers came away with the 1-0 win in the first game, when Jordan Jennings led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to left field.

It was hard-luck loss for senior Caroline Raymond (10-14), who allowed just four hits and struck out one over 91 pitches.

UMass had a number of opportunities to break through but ended up leaving 10 runners on base, its most since a season-high 12 against Bowling Green in the second week of the season. The Minutewomen left the bases loaded in the second and had runners on second and third in the seventh but were unable to score. UMass was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

UMass had seven hits in the game and put a number of fly ball outs to the warning track.

When senior shortstop Quianna Diaz-Patterson struck out with the bases loaded in the second, it ended her streak of consecutive plate appearances reaching base at 11, tying for the fifth-longest streak in NCAA Division I history.

Game 2 Recap Dayton freshman left-hander Manda Cash (9-1) earned the win after striking out 10 UMass batters. She allowed four base runners on three hits and an error before retiring the final 12 Minutewomen she faced, including seven of those via strike out.

The Dayton offense came alive to the tune of nine hits in the game. UD scored three in the third and two in the fourth before adding a final score in the sixth.

Flyers left fielder Natalie Mariano went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI from the leadoff spot.

The series was originally scheduled to be a three-game set, but Saturday's doubleheader was postponed to Sunday due to rain all day in Dayton.
