Saint Louis Tops UMass Baseball, 6-0

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - The UMass baseball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night, falling to Saint Louis, 6-0 in Atlantic 10 action at Billiken Sport Center. Following the setback, the Minutemen are 11-12 overall, 7-6 in the A-10, while the Billikens improve to 25-12 overall and 7-3 in conference action.
Saint Louis took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Colton Frabasilio led off with a bunt single, moved to second on a ground ball, went to third on a wild pitch and came in on a sacrifice fly by Josh Bunselmeyer.
The squads were then locked in pitcher's duel until the Billikens broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits. Danny Murphy sent a three-run homer over the fence in right to push the margin to 4-0. Then, following a single and a walk, Frabasilio drove a two-run double into right to give Saint Louis a 6-0 lead.
Sophomore Ryan Moloney took the loss (2-3) in his start for the Minutemen. He allowed six runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings with four walks and three strikeouts. Clay Smith improved to 7-0 for the Billikens with the victory. He limited UMass to five hits over seven shutout innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
Junior Brandon Walsh had two of UMass' six hits in the contest, going 2-for-4 with a double. Danny Murphy paced Saint Louis at the plate, hitting 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Frabasilio and Alex King went 2-for-5 with two RBI and 2-for-4, respectively.
The teams will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 18, with a doubleheader set for 2 p.m., due to rain in the forecast for Sunday.
