UMass Women Take Third At Minuteman Invite

AMHERST, Mass - The Minutewomen took on their second home meet of the season Saturday April 11 at the Minuteman Invitational. The UMass women faced off against a talented field of competition including Boston College, Northeastern, and Amherst among others. After a long day of events the UMass women's efforts earned a third place finish. Highlights of the competition include Courtney Kromko's win in long jump, Sara Wagner's first place finish in hammer, and Alexa Fearing's win in shot put.

Heather MacLean finished third in the 400 meter dash. The sophomore ran 57.19-seconds, a New England qualifying performance. Krista Webb took 8th in the 800 meter run at 2 minutes, 20.00-seconds.

Grace Bailly took third in the 10,000 meter run. The freshman ran 40 minutes, 25.76-seconds. Colleen Sands was second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 11 minutes, 35.19-seconds. Sarah Barrett took third at 11 minutes, 44.94-seconds.

In the 5,000 meter run, Alexandra Purdue-Smithe was second at 18 minutes, 18.06-seconds. Close behind was Molly McMahon at 18 minutes, 23.27-seconds. Rounding out the top eight were Sarah Burke and Samantha Allen. The women ran 19 minutes, 10.40-seconds and 20 minutes, 5.82-seconds respectively.

Meghan Patrolia took bronze in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.18-seconds to qualify for New England.

The women's 4x100 meter relay, comprised of Brittany Green, Diamante Spencer, Camille Edwards, and Ashley Palmer took sixth at 50.72-seconds. Courtney Neves, Krista Webb, Katie Powers, and Heather MacLean's 4x400 meter relay took third with a 4 minute, 7.93-second performance.

In jump events, Courtney Kromko took the win in long jump at 18 feet, 0.25-inches. Right behind, Ashley Palmer finished second at 18 feet, 0.25-inches. Julia Witt took second in high jump at 5 feet, 3.25-inches, just shy of New England. Rachel Busch was sixth in pole vault at 10 feet, 0.75-inches. Kayla Rorke took 8th spot at 9 feet, 7.00-inches.

Alexa Fearing took the win in shot put. Fearing threw 40 feet, 5.00-inches to take first and placed just short of New England. In second was Margaret Riseborough 40 feet, 2.00 inches. Sara Wagner took sixth at 38 feet, 9.75-inches. Emma Robinson took gold in javelin. The junior threw 139 feet, 4.00-inches.

Wagner and Riseborough returned to the field later for the discus competition. Wagner finished fifth with a 114 foot toss and Riseborough took sixth at 113 feet, 5.00-inches. Nathalie Irmer was seventh at 109 feet, 10.00-inches. Alexa Fearing rounded out the top eight with a 108 foot, 9.00-inch toss at 8th.

Wagner was first in hammer with a 150 foot, 9.00-inch toss. Riseborough took seventh at 120 feet, 3.00-inches. Rounding out the top eight was Irmer with a 118 foot, 2.00-second throw.

Next up for the Minutewomen comes the Holy Cross Heptathlon, a two-day competition beginning Wednesday in Worcestor, Mass. Events are expected to begin April 15 at 11:00 AM.
