Rowing Dominates Day One At Knecht Cup

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The UMass rowing team began competition at the Knecht Cup in West Windsor, N.J. on Saturday. The Minutewomen were able to advance all 11 boats entered into races. UMass will regroup for the Finals, Grand Finals, Petite Finals and Third Final tomorrow morning at 7 a.m.at Mercer Lake.

All three boats entered into the Varsity Pair events finished first in their respective heats. The third UMass boat of Candace Miller and Pippa Edwards recorded the best time at 8:14.48. The second entry of Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul and Allanah Rubi-Mooney finished with a time of 8:18.79. Lastly, the first boat of Taryn Wilson and Emily Mann notched a time of 8:28.20.

The Varsity 4+ boat consisting of Abigail Raichek, Rachel Boudreau, Gabrielle Hayward, Kyla Miller and Sam Wonderlin advanced to the Grand Final with a time of 7:25.92. The second Varsity 4+ entry made it to the Finals in 7:56.58.

The Varsity 8+ boat continued its undefeated season with a time of 6:45.05 and advanced to the Grand Final. The entry included Heather Pekarovich, Taryn Wilson, Emily Mann, Marika Kopp, Pippa Edwards, Candace Miller, Sam Kolovson, Lauren St. Pierre and Allanah Rubi-Mooney. The second Varsity 8+ and third Varsity 8+ boats will race in the Third Final and Finals, respectively.

Rounding out competition in the preliminary round, the Novice 8+ boat advanced to the Petite Final in 7:31.32. In addition, the first and second Novice 4+ entries will race in the Petite Final and Grand Final, correspondingly on Sunday.
