Club 8+ Takes Silver Medal at Head of the Charles

BOSTON- The UMass rowing team’s first day at the Head of the Charles Regatta was highlighted by a silver medal earned in the Women’s Club 8+ while Jim Dietz finished ninth and Marika Kopp finished 21st in their respective races on Saturday.
The Women’s Club 8+ finish of 16:47.50 was second only to Brown University, who completed the race with a time of 16:09:90. Haley Eovine, Haley York, Nicole Destefano, Katherine Armstrong, Zoe Hill, Aiste Balciunaite, Hadley Irvin, Natalie Boisvert, and Courtney Edson comprised the Club 8+ for UMass. They finished just ahead of Riverside, who crossed the finish line at 16:52.23.
In the first event that UMass competed in, Dietz placed ninth in the Men's Veteran Singles I, who finished with a time of 20:18.68.
Other UMass action in day one of the two-day Head of the Charles events saw Marika Kopp take 21st place in the Women’s Championship 1x. She earned a time of 22:40.62.
Former Minutewomen teammates and co-captains Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul and Taryn Wilson, also competed on Saturday. The duo finished with a time of 19:31.98 in the Women’s Championship 2x. Their finish earned them 16th place.
The Minutewomen will be back on the Charles River for day two on Sunday, Oct. 19, as UMass will race in two events. Rachel Boudreau will compete in the Women’s Club 1x while the Women’s Light 4+ will finish off UMass’ participation in the 2014 Head of the Charles Regatta. The Light 4+ consista of Heather Pekarovich, Krysten Menks, Emily Mann, Carly Zanatta, and Allanah Rubi-Mooney.
