TORONTO, Ontario - The Canadian Women's Basketball National Team and head coach Lisa Thomaidis announced former UMass women's basketball standout Tamara Tatham (2003-07) as one of the 12 athletes chosen to represent the country at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico. Tatham will compete for Team Canada at the international tournament beginning with the preliminary round from Sept. 22-25, 2013.

"After an amazing summer of training and competition, we've selected the 12 athletes that will represent Canada at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico," said Thomaidis in the Canada Basketball official release. "Both our mix of experience and youth will be called upon to contribute in Xalapa. The FIBA Americas tournament is highly competitive and we are mindful of the varying styles in opponents that we will face. We are encouraged with the signs of improvement we've seen in both our team and individual performance indicators over the course of the summer, and feel very prepared for the upcoming tournament."

Taking place in Xalapa, Mexico, the tournament will feature national programs from the Americas. Canada will open against Jamaica on Sunday, Sept. 22, before facing Chile on Sept. 23, Venezuela the following day and Cuba to close preliminary play on Sept. 25. The Canadian National Team earned bronze medals during each of the last four years competing at the tournament.
