CINCINNATI, Ohio - Junior Aaron Plunkett limited Xavier to just four hits, tossing his first career complete game, but one unearned run made the difference as UMass was edged by the Musketeers, 1-0, in Atlantic 10 baseball action at Hayden Field on Sunday afternoon. The loss leaves the Minutemen at 11-31 overall and 4-17 in the conference, while Xavier moves to 27-23 on the year and 14-7 in the A-10.

UMass, who out-hit the Musketeers 7-4 in the contest, had runners reach third base in the first, fourth and sixth innings, but could not manage to push across a run.

Xavier scored the only run of the day in the bottom of the fifth. Seth Dawes reached on a two-base error to lead off the inning, while the next batter, Stephen Schoettmer, drove him in with a double down the left field line, the lone extra base hit of the game for the Musketeers.

Plunkett took the loss (0-6) for the Minutemen, scattering four hits, walking six and striking out four over eight innings on the hill. Tyler Koors, his counterpart, tossed a complete game shutout for the win (5-5) and allowed seven hits, while fanning six without walking a batter.

Freshman John Jennings went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double as the lone UMass player with multiple hits on the afternoon. Dawes accounted for half of Xavier's hits, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Minutemen will wrap up their 2013 campaign next Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, at Temple.
