AMHERST, Mass. - Junior forward Michael Pereira has been honored with a pair of weekly awards after helping the UMass hockey team defeat #11/9 Boston University last Friday. On Monday, Pereira was tapped as both the Athletic Republic Co-Hockey East Player of the Week and Co-UMass Athlete of the Week. Pereira shares the awards with Maine's Joey Diamond and Becky Stoyle of the women's indoor track & field team, respectively.
It marks the second time this season he has been named UMass Athlete of the Week, while collecting his second career Hockey East Player of the Week accolade.
In Friday's victory over the Terriers, Pereira notched four points on two goals and two assists and was named the game's No. 1 star. The four points matched his career single-game best and included his first career short-handed goal. He now has 18 points on the year, tied for second on the squad.
The Minutemen will be back in action this weekend with a home game against Northeastern Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Mullins Center.
