UMass Women's Soccer Honored With NSCAA Academic Award

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's soccer team has been recognized for its work in the classroom as the Minutewomen were one of 593 women's programs to earn a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the NSCAA announced on Thursday.

The Minutewomen posted a combined grade point average of 3.29 during the 2012-13 academic year. For head coach Ed Matz, it marked the ninth time in the last 10 years that a team under his direction has received an NSCAA Team Academic Award.

Back in July, 10 UMass women's soccer players earned spots on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honor roll for posting 3.5 grade-point-average for the Spring 2013 semester, including current team members sophomore Jackie Bruno, sophomore Jen Coppola, redshirt sophomore Kristen Gargiulo, sophomore Georgia Gibson, redshirt sophomore Georgie Highton, redshirt freshman Danielle Kriscenski, redshirt freshman Breanna Robinson, sophomore Madison Smith and sophomore Rebekka Sverrisdóttir.
