Lightweight Fours Finish Second At The Head Of The Charles

BOSTON - The University of Massachusetts rowing Lightweight Four boat earned second place with a time of 19:59.85 at the 49th Head of the Charles Regatta, hosted in Boston this past weekend. The Minutewomen sent six boats to participate in the event.

The Lightweight Four boat of Emily Hajjar, Taryn Wilson, Emily Mann, Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul and Allanah Rubi-Mooney earned the silver medal finish for Massachusetts during the two-day competition.

In the Club Eight race on Saturday afternoon, UMass earned an eighth place finish, completing the course just three-tenths of a second behind the seventh place squad from Canisius. The Minutewomen lineup for the Club Eight consisted of Krysten Menks, Nicole Destefano, Sarah Wiczek, Gabrielle Hayward, Kyla Miller, Teagan Rolf von den Baumen, Haley York, Sam Kolovson and coxswain Tanya Smith.

Also participating in the Head of the Charles was the team of Lauren St. Pierre and Marika Kopp, who raced in Doubles event. The duo placed 17th with a time of 20:05.854.

Head coach and former Olympian Jim Dietz also competed with his student-athletes, securing eighth in the Veteran Men's Single event in 20:17.439. This was the 48th time that Dietz participated in the Head of the Charles.

The Minutewomen will compete next at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga, N.Y. on Saturday Oct. 26.
