Rowing Takes Varsity 8+ Race From Coast Guard

HADLEY, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts rowing program opened its spring season on the Connecticut River with a Varsity 8+ scrimmage against the United States Coast Guard Academy on Saturday. The top boat for the Minutewomen finished in 5:29.6 to best the Bears, who crossed in 5:58.5 - just over 31 seconds later.
UMass and Coast Guard were scheduled to complete a second Varsity 8+ race, but the Bears were unable to field another boat due to illness. The second Varsity 8+ from UMass raced against the first entry by the Minutewomen and Coast Guard's boat and finished in 5:47.5 to take second place.

Varsity 8+ (First - 5:29.6): Heather Pekarovich, Taryn Wilson, Emily Mann, Marika Kopp, Pippa Edwards, Candace Miller, Sam Kolovson, Lauren St. Pierre & Allanah Rubi-Mooney.
Second Varsity 8+ (Second - 5:47.5): Haley Eovine, Krysten Menks, Nicole Destefano, Kyla Miller, Gabrielle Hayward, Catherine Murphy, Hadley Irvin, Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul & Estefi Marti Malvido.
Conditions: No wind, tail current.
The Minutewomen continue their season on Saturday, April 5 at Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
