Mastalerz Earns Hockey East Weekly Honor

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass freshman goaltender Steve Mastalerz has been tabbed the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Co-Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. It marks the second weekly honor for Mastalerz this season has he was previously named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week back on Jan. 15.
Helping the Minutemen split their weekend with New Hampshire, Mastalerz stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced in UMass' 4-2 win over the Wildcats on Saturday night for a .929 save percentage. The netminder made nine saves in both the first and third periods and helped UMass go 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
On the year, Mastalerz has appeared in 12 games with nine starts and holds a record of 4-4-0 with a 3.29 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage.
