Field Hockey Falls To Kent State In OT, 3-2

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Debbie Bell scored on a penalty stroke 2:47 into overtime to give Kent State a 3-2 victory over UMass on Saturday afternoon in Iowa City, Iowa. Christine Cutry and Nicole Cordero each scored their first goals of the season and Alesha Widdall made nine saves in goal for the Minutewomen. UMass takes on the host Hawkeyes on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
Cordero tied the game in the 49th minute with her first goal since a season-ending injury last October. The junior forward pounced on a rebound and made it a 2-2 game, eventually sending it an extra period. It is the sixth goal of Cordero's career.
Cutry gave the Minutewomen the early 1-0 lead when she scored on a penalty corner 5:36 into the game. It was the senior's first tally of the season and second of her career.
Rebecca Lee tied the game 1-1 in the 23rd minute when she scored on a chip at close range, and Julia Hofmann gave the Golden Flash a 2-1 lead 4:11 into the second half when she dribbled around a defender and scored.
Widdall finished with nine saves for UMass, while Jahna Jordan made four stops for Kent State.
Kent State held a 23-13 edge in shots and a 11-9 advantage in penalty corners.
