AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's soccer sophomore defender Grace Coombs was named co-Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week and UMass Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Coombs in the first Minutewoman to be honored by the conference office in 2011 and follows goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon as the second member of the squad to collect a UMass Athlete of the Week nod this fall.

Coombs, who made the first two starts of her career last week at Harvard and against #20 Boston University, scored the lone goal of the match in the 23rd minute against the nationally-ranked Terriers. The tally, which was Coombs' first collegiate goal, gave the Minutewomen their first win over a ranked team since 2006 when the squad defeated #15 UConn, 2-1.

Coombs also played a key roll in the team defensive efforts that resulted in the shutout of BU, who had out-scored its opponents 12-6 heading into the match and out-shot the Minutewomen, 22-3.

UMass will continue its stretch of three straight home games with a match against Maine this Friday, Sept. at 4 p.m. on Rudd Field.
