Boucher Qualifies For World Rowing U23 Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - UMass rising-senior Emily Boucher will be representing the United States at the 2011 World Rowing Under 23 World Championships this July after winning the women's lightweight single sculls final on Wednesday morning at the U23 World Championship Trials in West Windsor, N.J. The Minutewomen's Liz Euiler also competed in the finals and was part of the boat that finished second in the lightweight women's quadruple sculls.
Boucher won Tuesday's trial with a time of 8:15.87 and followed with an 8:03.98 in the final, finishing nearly 16 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Euiler helped her boat to a first place showing in the lightweight women's quadruple sculls time trial on Tuesday, winning the event by almost fifteen seconds after posting a 6:48.79. Then on Wednesday, the group was the runner up in the final with a 06:44.68.
Three more UMass rowers were in action in the Tuesday trials, as well. Kendall Bennett and Michaela Streitfield took third in the women's 2- (8:10.57), while Amanda Doolin placed fourth in the women's single (08:19.06).
Boucher will be competing at the World Rowing U23 Championships for a second consecutive year. At the 2010 World Championships in Brest, Belarus, she reached the lightweight single sculls Final B. This year's World Championships will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, July 21-24.
