Aguguo And O'Donnell Named Co-Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Women's lacrosse attack Jesse O'Donnell and women's track and field jumper Stephanie Aguguo have been named the UMass Co-Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Athletic Department on Tuesday. The Athletic Department also announced that Sean Busch of the men's track and field team and Samantha Schnoerr of the women's rowing team have been named the Spring Scholar-Athletes. All four student-athletes will be honored at Wednesday's Sports Luncheon at 12 PM in Room 1009 of the Campus Center.

O'Donnell netted five goals in Sunday's Atlantic 10 Championship game against Richmond to give the Minutewomen their third straight conference title, earning her A-10 Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. The Chicago native's six draw controls on Sunday, in addition to her three goals in the semifinal game against Duquesne earned her a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team, as well. No. 16 UMass will be back on the field on Saturday for the NCAA Play-In Game against Canisius of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The game will be hosted by UMass at McGuirk Stadium at 1 PM.

Aguguo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had the performance of the day at last weekend's UMass Pre-Conference Meet with her leap of 40-10.50 in the triple jump, which set a new all-time mark for UMass in the event. She previously held the second all-time mark, but bested her jump by 16.50 inches to get the first place spot. The track and field team's will head to the Atlantic 10 Championships in Charlotte this Saturday.

Busch was recently named the UMass Male Athlete of the Year at Monday's Senior Award's Banquet. The Stow, Mass. native was also honored as the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year earlier this season. Busch owns the indoor pole vault record (16-0.75) while standing in second place in the outdoor record book in the same event (15-9).

Schnoerr (Norwalk, Conn.) was named the Atlantic 10 Rowing Student-Athlete of the Year on Monday as well as the UMass Female Scholar Athlete at the Senior Award's Banquet. The 2011 A-10 All-Conference First Team member holds a 3.945 grade point average as a Legal Studies major, and was the recipient of the Shep Shepard Award, which recognizes academic excellence in Legal Studies as well as contributions to the community.
