Misho Pitches Baseball Past Toledo, 2-1

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Behind junior Glen Misho's complete game effort, the UMass baseball team opened up its week at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 2-1 win over Toledo on Saturday morning. With their first victory of the season, the Minutemen move to 1-4, while the Rockets fall to 4-10.
After escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the second, UMass capitalized on a Toledo miscue in the bottom half of the frame. Senior Kyle Multner drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored when freshman Josh Messier reached on an error.
The Minutemen went on to add what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Multner ripped a one-out double down the left field line and the next batter, junior Tom Conley, drove him in with a single up the middle.
Two clutch double plays in the sixth and seventh innings helped UMass prevent Toledo from getting on the board after putting leadoff runners on in both turns at bat. The Rockets did manage to break up the shutout in the eighth, though, with their lone run of the afternoon. Joe Corfman dropped a double into left center and stole third before Matt Delewski sent him home with a single up the middle.
Misho earned the win (1-1) in his first collegiate complete game. He scattered eight hits and walked two, while logging a career-high eight strikeouts. Lincoln Rassi started and took the loss (0-3) for the Rockets after giving up one unearned run on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Senior Eric Fredette had three of the Minutemen's six hits, going 3-for-4 in the contest. Multner doubled and scored twice, while Conley was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Corfman and Delewski both batted 2-for-4 for Toledo, logging a run scored and an RBI, respectively.
UMass will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 13, facing Bradley at 5:30 p.m. at Henley Field.
