AMHERST, Mass. - No. 24 Indiana's top scorers Will Bruin and Andy Adlar each notched second half goals as the Hoosiers defeated the UMass men's soccer team, 2-1, at Rudd Field on Sunday. UMass sophomore Hellah Sidibe scored his first collegiate goal in the loss. The Minutemen will return to action on Wednesday against Vermont (3:30 PM) at Rudd Field.

Indiana improves to 3-3-0 on the year, while UMass falls to 1-2-2 overall.

Bruin scored his team-best fifth goal of the season in the 50th minute of play. Tim Wylie received a pass from keeper Luis Soffner and played it back to Jacob Bushue. Bushue lofted a pass over the UMass defensive back line where Bruin time a perfect run to collect the ball. Just inside the 18-yard box, he one-time a left footed shot inside the left post and past charging keeper Chris Piekos.

The Minutemen responded just under seven minutes later as Sidibe scored the first goal of his career to tie the game at 1-1. Sidibe, who became the third newcomer for UMass to score a goal this weekend, managed to elude an Indiana defender along the right goal line, dribble towards the goal box, and fire a flat-angled, left-footed shot between Soffner and the right goal post.

In the 63rd minute, the Hoosiers responded as Adlar scored his fourth of the year which proved the game-winner. Adlar deflected a clearing pass by a sliding UMass defender and caught Piekos outside of the six-yard box. Adlar's deflection carried towards the left goal post, and despite a diving effort by Piekos to recover, Adlar managed to reach the loose ball to poke it into the empty net.

UMass had two chances late in the game, but were unable to find the equalizer. With 4:26 remaining, Andrew Henshaw flicked a corner kick towards the back post which was saved by Indiana defender Matt McKain who was on the goal line.

It looked as if Henshaw was going to tie the game again with 15 seconds left after a nice pass by Ben Arikian put him on target, but Henshaws shot from three-yards out hit the right post deflecting away.

For the game, Indiana held a 14-to-10 shot advantage. UMass managed four corner kicks to three for the Hoosiers.

Soffner made four saves in goal for the win, while Piekos made seven in the loss. Soffner improves to 3-3-0 on the season, while Piekos falls to 0-1-2.
