AMHERST, Mass. - A perfect way to end your senior track and field campaign is qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Outstanding seniors Brian Miller and Lisa Wilson have both followed the desired path by qualifying for the NCAA Regional Championships on May 28 and 29. For Miller, he is the sole Minuteman to qualify, as he will compete in the high jump. Wilson, is the sole Minutewoman, and will put her efforts forth in the hammer throw.

Miller's senior campaign has been marked by a series of record breaking performances. The senior jumper took first place in three-of-five meets this season in the high jump, including at the UMass Nine Way Meet (4/10), UNH Pre-Conference Meet (4/24), and at the Atlantic 10 Championships (5/1). The conference meet was not only a first place finish for Miller, but a record smashing performance as well. Previous to the A-10 Championships, the senior set the best school mark ever in the high jump at the UNH Pre-Conference Meet, reaching a height of 6-08.25, good enough to qualify for the New England and IC4A Championships. Miller then smashed his own school record at the A-10 Meet, reaching a height of 7-00.25, good enough to be crowned an A-10 Champion, while ranking among the east coast's elite.

For the women, Wilson has been just as solid, capturing first place in two-of-five meets this season in the hammer throw. As Miller has, Wilson set the school record in the hammer throw not once, but twice in 2010. The first record breaking performance came at the UNH Pre-Conference (4/24) and then secondly at the ECAC Championships (5/8). The April 24 mark of 176-02 was good enough to capture first place in Durham, N.H., while on May 8, the senior field competitor threw for a distance of 185-01, capturing fourth place overall in Princeton, N.J.. Wilson qualified for the New England and ECAC Championships in just her first meet of the season at the UConn Invitational (4/3), where she threw for a distance of 167-01.

The last time that the UMass track and field program sent anyone to the NCAA Regionals was in 2008, as Wilson was among four athletes to travel to Florida State University. In 2008, Wilson competed in the discuss throw. The NCAA East Regional Championships are set to take place on May 28 and 29. The start time for both days is 10 am.
