AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's track and field team concluded the A-10 Championships on Sunday at the UMass Track and Field Complex. After standing second on day one, the Minutemen placed fourth overall with 104 points. Senior Brian Miller (pictured) was named Most Outstanding Field Performer of the meet following his A-10 and UMass record-setting performance in the high jump on Saturday. The A-10 Meet marks the beginning of a series of championship events to be run in the coming weeks.

Senior sensation Tyler Cotto again made an impact in the 110 meter hurdles on Sunday. He improved upon his New England and IC4A qualifying mark, along with his school top five mark by crossing the line at 14.45. The time was good enough for a fourth place finish, and to move up to third all-time in UMass history.

On a day led by New England qualifiers, the best of the pack for UMass in the 1500 meter run was Daniel Barry. The senior mid-distance runner placed fourth overall in the event, crossing the line at 3:51.06. The UMass 4x100 meter relay team also proved for an impressive performance by qualifying for the New England Meet. The quad combined for a time of 43.24, taking ninth place.

In the 800 meter run it was Scott VanderMolen qualifying for the New England Championships. The junior had the best team time in the event (three team competitors) by crossing the line at 1:54.12. A 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Michael McDonough, Nick Otis, Paul Grafov, and Evan Donadt also qualified for the New England Championships on Sunday afternoon. The quad combined for a time if 3:22.98, good enough for ninth overall in the event.

Continuing his success on the track was Evan Donadt in the 400 meter hurdles. The sophomore placed fourth with a time of 54.17. The mark improves upon Donadt's previous New England qualifying time, as well as his season best mark of 54.41 set at the UNH Pre-Conference Meet (4/24).

Other notable performances came from Daniel Schwartz and Matt Gulino. On a hot and humid weekend, Schwartz participated in ten events, placing an impressive second in the men's decathlon with 6,166 points. Gulino also had a strong performance in his heat of the 200 meter dash. The junior placed second in his heat of the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.08.

The Minutemen will continue the championship series as the team heads to the New England Championships next Saturday and Sunday. The meet is set to be run in Dedham, Mass. as the start time for both days is 10 am.
