AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's soccer team announced its 2010 schedule on Monday, highlighted by eight home matches, including the season opener against Washington on Aug. 27 at 4 p.m., on Rudd Field. Under first year head coach Ed Matz, the Minutewomen will look to build off their late season success from 2009 that earned the squad a trip to the Atlantic 10 tournament for the first time since 2004.

"Playing teams from the Pac-10, the Big Ten, two-time defending Ivy League champion Harvard and several other quality regional opponents, will prepare us well for a challenging Atlantic 10 schedule," said Matz. "We will be tested early in conference play as we pursue our goal of making a second consecutive A-10 tournament appearance. Three of our first four league matches will be against teams that finished in the top six in the A-10 last season, but we are fortunate to open up both the regular season and conference play at home on Rudd Field."

UMass will kick off 2010 three of its first four contests at home, as the team will follow up its match against Washington by taking on Vermont on Sept. 3. After making a trip to Albany on Monday, Sept. 6, the Minutewomen will face their third straight America East foe, hosting New Hampshire on Friday, Sept. 10.

The next match, at Fairfield on Sunday, Sept. 12, will begin a stretch of four straight road contests, followed up by a weekend trip to Michigan for games at Michigan on Friday, Sept. 17, and at Oakland on Sunday, Sept. 19. UMass will then travel to Providence, R.I., to face Brown on Thursday, Sept. 23.

The Minutewomen will play their final non-conference game against Harvard on Sunday, Sept. 26, the first match in a three-game homestand. UMass begins its A-10 slate by playing host to Charlotte and Saint Louis in the opening weekend of conference action, Friday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 3.

The following weekend, the Minutewomen will head west to Ohio to face Xavier on Oct. 8 and play at Dayton on Oct. 10.

UMass will travel to Rhode Island on Sunday, Oct.17, before closing out its home schedule with matches against Temple and Saint Joseph's on Oct. 22 and Oct. 24, respectively.

Wrapping up the regular season, the Minutewomen will play at Fordham on Friday, Oct. 29, and at La Salle on Sunday, Oct. 31.
