UMass Rows To Second Place Finish At Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - The UMass Rowing team competed on Lake Quinisgamond at Holy Cross on Saturday, finishing second in four of its five races. New Hampshire, MIT and Williams, the nation's No. 1 team in Division III, also participated in the races. The Minutewomen entered seven boats in five races, and will begin the first of two trips to New Jersey next weekend for the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J.
The Minutewomen's lone win of the day came in the Novice Eight, which UMass took in 8:17.44. UMass' second boat in the race finished third with a time of 8:46.60.
Williams finished first in each of the three Varsity Eight races, while Massachusetts rowed consistently with times between 7:30.00 and 7:45.00. The first Varsity Eight, coxswained by Samantha Schnoerr, finished with a time of 7:29.51. Molly Bogle led the Second Varsity Eight, who crossed the line with a time of 7:45.30, 11 seconds ahead of the Crusader boat.
Despite headwinds increasing throughout the day, Williams continued to lead the pack, completing the Third Varsity Eight with a time of 7:14.60 while Em Chiu's boat finished in 7:29.50. The Minutewomen had two boats in the Varsity Four race, but that didn't stop Williams from taking a five-second win over Schnoerr's boat. The 4+ boat, coxswained by Carly Payne, placed fifth with a time of 9:08.50.
