Boucher Takes Single Event For Rowing At Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, N.J. - Emily Boucher (Lee, N.H.) finished first in the Singles Final to pace Massachusetts Rowing on Day Two at the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J. Boucher finished with a time of 8:37.15, more than four seconds ahead of second place Duke. The Minutewomen also competed in the Grand Final of the Pair, Lightweight Four, Second Varsity Four, Lightweight Eight, Novice Eight and Second Varsity Eight. UMass will be back on the Cooper River next Saturday for the Atlantic 10 Championships, where the Minutewomen will look to defend their 2009 crown and claim their 14th conference title.
Boucher finished second in Saturday's semifinals (8:49.37) to qualify for the final event. Teammate Amy Nash also raced in the Singles final, placing sixth with a time of 9:10.58.
Both UMass Pair boats reached the Grand Final, finishing third (8:16.27) and fourth (8:21.58). The boats were raced by Alexandra DiMatteo and Amanda Doolin, and Chelsea Wakeham and Elizabeth Euiler. Massachusetts also finished fourth in the Lightweight Four (8:12.02), steered by coxswain Em Chiu.
The Novice Four, which competed in the Third Level Final, placed second in its race Sunday with a time of 8:37.83, while the Second Varsity Four also finished fourth (8:18.73). UMass had two boats in the Varsity Four, one in the Third Level Final and one in the Petite, finishing third and second, respectively.
Massachusetts began to struggle during the middle of the day, finishing fifth in the Lightweight Eight (7:35.46) and sixth in the Novice Eight (7:30.77), but the Minutewomen ended the day on a strong note with second place finishes in the Grand Final of the Second Varsity Eight and Petite Final of the First Varsity Eight.
