Final Stats

AMHERST, Mass. - In a day where four UMass top five all-time records were set, the UMass women's track and field team won the UMass Nine-Way Meet with 167.50 points. Albany was close behind in second place with 153 points followed by third place Boston College with 120 points. Lisa Wilson, Nalis Mbianda, Rachelle Bourque, and Stefanie Danehy, who all set UMass top five all-time marks, led the team to its first place finish.

Senior thrower Lisa Wilson paved the way for the Minutewomen, setting a new school record in the shot put. Wilson broke her own record that she set in 2009 (45-00.25) by throwing for a mark of 45-10.00. Wilson also grabbed first overall in the hammer throw (166-02) and second overall (152-04) in the discus. Both the shot put and discus marks that Wilson set qualify her for competition at the ECAC Championships.

Freshman Nalis Mbianda entered the record books in the shot put as well with a second place throw of 42-11.00. Mbianda is now fourth all-time at UMass in the event.

Freshman Rachelle Bourque set the second highest mark all-time at UMass in the javelin (137-02). Bourqe took first in the event and qualified for both the New England Championships and ECAC Championships. Also in the javelin, freshman Stefanie Danehy set a UMass top five all-time mark with her throw of 131-03. The mark puts Danehy fourth all-time at UMass and qualifies her for competition at the New England Championships. Danehy placed third in the event.

In the triple jump, junior Stephanie Aguguo set a New England Championship qualifying mark and took first place in the event (38-01.25). 800 meter run specialist Gina Perno won the event with a time of 2:16.61. Karen Roa won the 5000 meter run by crossing at 17:55.60. In the 400 meter intermediate hurdles, Brittany Bakanowski snagged second place with a time of 1:04.65.

In addition to the three freshmen that set top five all-time marks, a handful of other freshmen athletes had excellent days at the UMass Track and Field Complex. Nicole Pompei took second overall in the pole vault with a mark of 11-05.75. In the 1500 meter run, Courtney Baldwin notched a third place finish by crossing at 4:44.11. Rebecca Banker placed third in the high jump (5-01.00) and Emma Riedel placed fifth in the 100 meter dash (12.81).

Senior Molly Chapin took third in the pole vault with a height of 10-06.00. The long jump trio of Katherine Finnegan (17-04.00), Rebecca Banker (17-02.25), and Stephanie Aguguo (17-02.00) placed fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively.

Senior Rosalind Murphy finished fifth in the 200 meter dash (26.61) and senior Alexandra Haller grabbed sixth place in the 100 meter hurdles (16.25).

The Minutewomen will have a quick turn-around after today's meet, as the team will head to Worcester, Mass. on Wednesday, Apr. 14 for the Holy Cross Pentathlon. The meet will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will carry into Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Then two days later, UMass will compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
