KINGSTON, R.I. - The UMass tennis team (2-0) swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches to cruise to a 6-1 victory at Rhode Island on Wednesday afternoon. The dual match victory is the Minutewomen's second of the week over an Atlantic 10 Conference foe after defeating Fordham, 5-2, on Monday.

The doubles teams of Candynce Boney and Julia Comas (8-5), Tanisha Hodgson and Jessica Podlofsky (8-6), and Kaitlin Carpenter and Jocelyn Providence (8-0), all were victorious in doubles, giving the Minutewomen the crucial first point of the match.

From there UMass continued its dominance, winning five out of the six singles matches. The senior Boney won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Clara Matias took two close sets to win at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 7-6, while the senior Carpenter had no trouble at No. 4, winning 6-0, 6-2. Podlofsky and Providence rounded things out with straight-sets wins at No. 5 and No. 6, 6-0, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-2.

The Rams lone victory in the match came at No. 1 singles where Pam Emery avenged her doubles loss to Boney-Comas by defeating Comas, 6-2, 6-2.

The Minutewomen continue their fall schedule on Oct. 22-26 in Hanover, N.H. when Dartmouth hosts the ITA Regional Championships.
