Tennis Loses A Tough One To BC, 6-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The UMass tennis team (2-1) had their hands full against the Boston College Eagles (6-1), as Minutewomen lost 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Flynn Recreation Complex. UMass' bright spot, on Sunday, came with the #5 singles match player, Kaitlyn Carpenter, who was able to defeat her opponent, Haley Dixon, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The doubles team of Candynce Boney and Julia Comas (0-8), Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz (6-8), and Kaitlyn Carpenter and Jocelyn Providence (1-8), all played tough matches but came up short in their spring opener.
After the doubles matches, UMass dropped five of their six singles matches, with Julia Comas and Jessica Podlofsky bringing their matches to three sets in their losses. The lone victory came at the racquet of Kaitlyn Carpenter in straight sets against Haley Dixon, 6-4, 6-4.
The Minutewomen face off against New Jersey Institute of Technology, in their home opener on Saturday, February 5th at 12:30 p.m.
