BOSTON, Mass. - Despite playing a scoreless second half, Boston University struck twice in the first to defeat UMass women's soccer, 2-0, on Sunday evening at Nickerson Field. The Minutewomen are now 0-2-0 on the season, while the Terriers improve to 2-0-0.

After nearly 30 minutes deadlocked at 0-0, Farrell McClernon took a pass from Megan McGoldrick and slotted it into the far right side to give BU a 1-0 lead.

Then, in the 38th minute, Jessica Luscinski connected on a one-timer from Mara Osher, who fed her with a long pass into the box.

Senior Lauren Luckey made seven saves in net for UMass in the first half before being relieved by freshman Emily Cota in the second. In her collegiate debut, Cota made one save in a scoreless 45 minutes of play.

Senior Meghan Gould tallied the lone shot of the game for the Minutewomen, while the Terriers finished with 30 shot attempts. BU led in corner kicks, 6-0, and fouls were 10-7 against the Terriers.

UMass will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 4, when the squad will play host to Providence in its home opener at 4 p.m. on Rudd Field.
