BROOKLINE, Mass. - The UMass baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped as the squad fell to Northeastern, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond. With the loss, the Minutemen are now 19-23 on the year, while the Huskies improve to 23-20.

Northeastern opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Matt Miller doubled down the left field line to lead off the frame, moved to third on a groundout and came home on a sacrifice fly by Mike Tamsin.

UMass took the run back the following inning as junior Mike Donato opened up with a single to left and trotted home when a bases loaded walk was issued to senior Sam Boone.

The Minutemen then added two more to take a 3-1 lead in the third. After back-to-back walks to junior Brian Baudinet and senior Jim Macdonald, Donato's sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position and junior Mike Gedman drove a two-run single up the middle, giving UMass the lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Northeastern trimmed its deficit to one as David Gustafson was hit by a pitch and Frank Compagnone dropped a single into center that plated the run.

The Huskies followed up by climbing back on top in the bottom of the sixth, 5-3, taking advantage of a miscue by the Minutemen. Frank Pensanello and Brendan Stokes began the inning with two straight singles and both came in on an error. Then Ryan Maguire, who reached on the error, scored on a single by Compagnone.

The next inning, Northeastern added another insurance run as Pensanello doubled down the left field line and scored on an error.

Freshman Glen Misho took the hard-luck loss (0-1) for the Minutemen as he gave up three unearned runs on three hits with one walks in two-thirds of an inning on the mound. JT Ross worked two hitless innings for the Huskies and picked up the win (4-1), walking one and striking out one. Dan Zehr gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth and collected the save (6) for Northeastern

Mike Gedman paced UMass at the plate as he was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Matt Gedman was 2-for-3, extending his hitting streak to 11, and senior Adam Tempesta batted 2-for-5 with a double.

Pensanello finished the day 2-for-2 at the plate for the Huskies with two runs scored, while Compagnone was 2-for-5 with two RBI and Miller hit 2-for-4 with a run scored.
