UMass' Varsity Eight Boat Finishes Fifth at ECAC's

CAMDEN, N.J. - The UMass women's rowing team raced on Saturday at the ECAC Championships in Camden, N.J against 12 other Division 1 institutions. The Varsity Eight took fifth in the Grand Final, while the JV Eight and Novice Eight "A" placed fourth.
The Varsity Eight boat finished fifth overall with a time of 6:51.9. Princeton placed first in the event, followed by Bucknell, Rhode Island, and Forham. After the Minutewomen, Rutgers came in with a sixth place finish.
Princeton, which finished with a time of 6:29.8 in the Varsity Eight race, also captured first place in the Second Varsity Eight race with a time of 6:53.52. The Minutewomen finished in fourth place with a time of 7:10.12 beating out Rutgers and George Mason. To qualify for the Grand Final, the Minutewomen won their first heat with a time of 7:21.3 finishing ahead of Bucknell, George Mason, and Fordham.
The Varsity Four "B" boat raced to a first place finish (8:05.2) with the "A" boat coming in third (8:19.8) in the Petite Final. The Novice Eight grabbed fourth in the Grand Final, finishing thirteen seconds behind winner Bucknell. The Minutewomen came in ahead of George Washington and Fairfield.
UMass will head to Philadelphia, Pa. to race in the Dad Vail Regatta May 9-10.
