Brianna Scurry Named To Washington Freedom Preseason Roster

AMHERST, Mass. - Former UMass women's soccer All-American Briana Scurry has been named to the Washington Freedom preseason roster, as announced on Monday. The Freedom are one of seven teams set to play in the inaugural season of the Women's Professional Soccer League (WPS).
Scurry was one of the top goalkeepers in program history, posting a 0.56 GAA along with a 90.6 save percentage during her career with the Minutewomen. The Freedom and Los Angeles Sol play in the league's inaugural match on Mar. 29 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
Along with being named an All-American, Scurry was the 1993 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Missouri Athletic Club/Adidas Goalkeeper of the Year. Scurry has also seen action on the international stage, suiting up for gold-medal winning United States in the 2004 Olympics. She has also played in the World Cup.
Scurry has other professional experience under her belt. For three seasons, she was the starting goalkeeper of the Atlanta Beat (WUSA) before it suspended operations in 2003.
