UMass Women's Tennis Defeated At Dartmouth, 5-2

HANOVER, N.H. - The UMass women's tennis team traveled to New Hampshire on Wednesday to take on the Big Green and dropped a 5-2 decision. The match started out in Dartmouth's favor with the Big Green winning all three of the doubles matches. UMass (4-4) headed into singles play strong earning wins at Nos. 1 and 2. In the end Dartmouth pulled out the victory to improve to 2-6 on the season.
In doubles Dartmouth's powerful No. 1 duo of Mary Beth Winningham and Molly Scott continued their victorious streak winning their sixth straight match, 8-3 over Maude Lecluyse and Magdalena Ploch. At No. 2, Dartmouth earned their second win along with the doubles point, 8-2 over Tanisha Hodgson and Laura Danai. The UMass team of Candynce Boney and Kaitlyn Carpenter at No. 3 had the closest fought doubles match, but ended up losing 8-6.
Ploch had an impressive win at No. 1 singles, taking out Winingham in a long fought match determined by a super-tiebreak, 6-1, 3-6, 10-8. Ploch improves her overall record in dual singles matches to 4-2, with three wins coming at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 singles Boney defeated Jesse Adler, in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Dartmouth mounted wins at Nos. 3-6 singles giving them the remaining four points.
The Minutewomen return to action on Friday Feb. 27 when they travel to West Point to take on the Farleigh Dickinson Knights. The Minutewomen will remain in West Point throughout the weekend to take on Columbia on Feb. 28 and West Point on Mar. 1.
