AMHERST, Mass. - Former Keene State assistant coach Darcy Wilson has been named an assistant coach for the UMass track and field programs, it was announced today. Wilson, who has worked with several NCAA qualifiers and an NCAA champion at the Division III level, will be coaching the throwing events for the Minutemen and Minutewomen.

"We are very excited to have Darcy join the UMass coaching staff," said men's head coach Ken O'Brien. "With her background as a competitor, and extensive coaching experience, she will make major contributions to the development of throwing event student-athletes in our program".

This past spring at Keene State, Wilson guided student-athletes to ECAC and national titles in the men's hammer along with NCAA-qualifying performances in the men's and women's javelin. Under her guidance, the Owls set records in the men's discus, hammer, shot put and javelin along with women's discus and javelin records. She also coached a 2009 NCAA indoor qualifier in the men's weight throw and a 2008 outdoor qualifier in the men's hammer.

"We are very fortunate to have coach Darcy Wilson join our program," said women's head coach Julie LaFreniere. "She complements our current staff perfectly and I have great expectations for our future in the Atlantic 10 Conference".

Wilson was the assistant women's throw coach at Keene High School from 2004 to 2008. While at Keene High School, she produced four state qualifiers, two New England competitors, a New England discus record holder and a school record holder. She is an active member of both the National Throw Coaches association and the United States Track and Field Federation (USTAF).

A New Hampshire State champion and school record holder in the shot put and discus while at Keene High School, Wilson was awarded a full scholarship in track and field from Boston University. A top regional competitor for the Terriers, Wilson graduated with a bachelor of science from BU in 1986.
