AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's soccer senior co-captain Vanessa Patry (Delmar, N.Y.) has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week as announced on Monday afternoon. Patry had a career day in the Minutewomen's only game last week, Thursday's 2-2 tie vs. the New Hampshire Wildcats. She scored both goals of the home-opener which tied a career-high. It marked her second-career multi-goal game, the last coming on Sept. 3, 2006 at Iona.
For Patry, the A-10 weekly award marks the first of her career. She was named UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week during her freshman and sophomore campaigns before being named Honorable Mention All-Conference as a junior.
The two goals came in the first half, marking the first time a Minutewomen has netted two in a half since Oct. 7, 2007 at Xavier when Britt Canfield scored two late in the second. Sydney Stoll added two goals in the first half of the Sept. 16 game vs. Hartford.
Patry and the Minutewomen are back in action Wednesday at 4 p.m. when they welcome Bryant University to Rudd Field for the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The three-game homestand continues on Sunday when Holy Cross comes to town. Please note, the Sunday start time has been changed to 2 p.m.
