Men's Track Team Competes at USATF New England Championships

Cambridge, Mass. - On Sunday, the men's track team competed in the USATF New England Championships. The top performance of the day came from junior Peter Fortunato (Tewksbury, Mass.) who placed seventh in the one mile run. Fortunato's time of 4:17.97 qualified him for the New England Championship hosted by the NEICAAA this upcoming weekend.
In the 60 meter dash, freshman Darius Velez placed ninth with a time of 7.13 seconds. Senior Nathan Barksdale (Valparaiso, Indiana) placed ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.46 seconds. In the one mile run, senior Ryan Durkin (Andover, Mass. placed tenth with a time of 4:20.84, while senior Matt Klypka (Oakland, N.J.) placed 23rd in 4:38.54.
Sophomore Ryan Diorio (Bridgewater, N.J.) placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.23. Freshman Scott VanderMolen (Tully, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 1:59.23, while senior James Bentley (Cotuit, Mass.) placed seventh in 1:59.99. Freshman Brian Tino (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the top ten with a time of 2:00.69. The men's relay team took first place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:24.70.
In field events, freshman Sean Busch (Stow, Mass.) placed tenth in the pole vault competition with a height of 12 feet, 11.50 inches. Freshman Daniel Schwartz (Sudbury, Mass.) placed 12th with a height of 12 feet, 5.50 inches. In the shot put competition, freshman Kevin Spieler (Attleboro, Mass.) placed seventh with a throw of 42 feet, 6.75 inches.
On Friday, both the men's and women's track teams will head back to Boston for the NEICAAA New England Championships.
