UMass Competes in Holy Cross Multi Event Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. - Last week, four members of the UMass track and field team headed out to Holy Cross to take part in the Holy Cross Multi Event Meet. Freshman Daniel Schwartz (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Chris Dzidek (Chicopee, Mass.) took part in the decathlon, while freshman Jaclyn Imhoff (Miton,Mass.) and freshman Elaina Zizza (Stoneham, Mass.) participated in the decathlon.
Schwartz placed sixth out of 26 competitors in the decathlon to score 5,610 points. Schwartz scored a seasonal best distance of 82 feet in the discus throw and 30 feet, 5.75 inches in the shot put. Schwartz scored the most points (635) in the 110 meter hurdles to finish with a time of 16.90 seconds.
Dzidek placed 14th in the decathlon with a score of 5,274 points. Dzidek had a seasonal best performance in the shot put competition with throw of 35 feet, 11.5 inches. Dzidek also scored the most points (645) in the 110 meter hurdled to finish in 16.80 seconds.
The decathlon is composed of the 100 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meter dash, 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and the 1500-meter run.
Imhoff placed ninth out of 21 competitors in the heptathlon to score 3,857 points. Imhoff had a seasonal best performance in the javelin throw with a distance of 96 feet, 7 inches. Imhoff scored the most points (655) in the high jump competition with a height of 5 feet, ¼ inch.
Zizza finished 14th in the heptathlon to score 3,351 points. Zizza scored the most points (595) in the 100 meter hurdled to finish with a time of 17.01 seconds.
The heptathlon is composed of the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meter dash, long jump, javelin, and 800 meter run.
This weekend, both teams will travel to Durham, New Hampshire to take part in the UNH Pre-Conference Meet. This will be the final tune up for the athletes before they compete at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships hosted by UMass from May 3-4.
