Serio Tabbed A-10 Player Of The Week

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Sophomore catcher Jessica Serio was named Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Serio had an outstanding weekend of softball at the Palm Springs Classic, going 7-of-13 (.538) with two doubles and four RBI in five contests which included three top ten opponents.
In a 4-2, 13-inning loss versus defending national champion and No. 9 Arizona on Feb. 23, she went 2-for-3 with a run batted in off the 2007 WCWS MVP Taryne Mowatt. Serio had at least one hit in all five games and was a combined 2-for-4 versus both No. 5 UCLA and No. 10 Baylor.
The sophomore also went 2-for-4 with a double in a 5-1 win over Michigan State on Sunday as she extended her hit streak to six games.
This is the second-straight week that UMass Softball has claimed an award from the conference.
The Minutewomen, who sit at 4-6 on the season, head to Columbus, Ga. this weekend for the NFCA Leadoff Classic. UMass faces Florida State (11 a.m. EST) and No. 17 DePaul (1:30 p.m. EST) on Friday and No. 3 Texas A&M (4 p.m. EST) and Auburn (6:30 p.m. EST) on Saturday. On Sunday, the Minutewomen finish off the classic with a match-up against No. 15 Mississippi State at South Commons Stadium and Complex. All games can be followed on GameTracker at www.
