AMHERST, Mass. - Jaime Bourazeris led the offensive attack with two goals as 17th-ranked UMass field hockey (8-3) cruised to a 5-1 victory over Siena (0-8) at Garber Field on Saturday afternoon. Katelyn Orlando, Erin Parker, and Jackie Tait all added goals as the Minutewomen scored their most goals since a 5-0 win over Harvard on Sept. 2 of last year. Parker finished with a goal and two assists to give her a team-leading 14 points for the season. UMass completely controlled the game throughout, outshooting the Saints, 31-2, and drawing 11 penalty corners to Siena's two.
The Minutewomen got on the board early after earning their first penalty corner just over five minutes into the game. Makaela Potts' shot on the corner was saved, but Parker was there on the left post to knock in the rebound for her fourth goal of the season.
Just past the midway point of the half, UMass won its third corner and made the best of it. Parker inserted the ball to Mary Shea, who slid the ball over to Bourazeris. The sophomore defender's blast scored inside the left post for her second goal of the season, giving UMass a 2-0 lead with 14:32 left in the half. Shea earned her third assist of the season on the play.
The Minutewomen earned another corner as time expired in the half. This time Parker inserted to Orlando, who slipped it to Bourazeris, and in a replay of her earlier goal, blasted it by Saints' goalkeeper Jennifer Tesak for her second goal of the game.
UMass outshot Siena, 21-1, in the first half and drew seven corners to the Saints' two.
Orlando started the scoring in the second half when she redirected a shot from Amy Novak in the 41st minute for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. For Novak, who missed all of last season with an injury, the assist was her first point since 2006.
With just over 23 minutes left in the second half, UMass was awarded a penalty stroke and Tait beat Siena goalkeeper Renee Clavette, who had entered the game at the start of the half, making it a 5-0 game. It was the first goal of Tait's career.
Siena got on the scoreboard with 17:06 left in the game when Jenn Reich knocked in a loose ball on a scramble in front of the goal to make it a 5-1 game.
Making her second start of the year, junior Sarah Williams got the victory in goal.
UMass' season-high shot total of 31 was the most by the Minutewomen since they had 36 against Siena on Sept. 26, 2006 in a 4-0 win.
Due to Sunday's game vs. Georgetown being cancelled, the Minutewomen don't return to action until Friday, Oct. 12 when they open Atlantic 10 play at Richmond at 2 p.m.
